Possessing the largest economy and population in Africa, Nigeria is an emerging international contender. Situated favorably on the Atlantic coast in West Africa the demographically and linguistically diverse state has struggled with terrorist incursions in recent years. The Northern half of the country contains the majority of Nigeria’s Muslim population, as well as the majority of the aggression from the violent extremist organization Boko Haram over the past decade.
What We've Done
A team of 30 enumerators collected data from residents of Michika using QuickTapSurvey on phones or tablets. Questions included demographics, as well as questions regarding the respondent’s most dire needs. This data was then collated and assessed using state-of-the-art analytical tools.
Unsurprisingly, the surveys confirmed that lack of the food, water and shelter plagued the people of Michika most severely. With a sufficient number of surveys completed, the team was able to establish a baseline, or starting point, from which all future interventions and potential solutions could be
measured against.
